So for no particular reason I decided I was in a classic rock kinda mood. Don't really have much to say in this post. My life is fairly free of drama and intrigue. So I will leave you with the following inspirational email from my aunt

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The
animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried
to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the
animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up
anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the
donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help
him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel
dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what
was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's
amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked
down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With
each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was
doing something amazing. He would shake it off and
take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on
top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a
step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the
donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of
dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake
it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a
stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells
just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off
and take a step up.

after the inspirational crap, we join the farmer and his
donkey a week later..

The pissed off donkey came back and bit the shit out of
the farmer who had tried to bury him. The gash from the
bite got infected, and the farmer eventually died in
agony from septic shock.

When you do something wrong and try to cover your ass,
it always comes back to bite you.

MoCoLoco it's an industrial design blog!! how my apartment craves these items. I think I'm going to have to outfit my apartment in primary colors, pop art, brushed aluminum and foam, something like a 60's vision of modern living, with penty of light colored molded plywood and translucent plastics.

Rockin out

Punkish
  • The Sex Pistols- God Save the Queen
  • The Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Bang
  • The White Stripes- Fell in Love with a Girl
  • The Ramones- Blitzkrieg Bop
  • The Strokes- Hard to Explain

  • The Offspring- Come out and Play

This is a pretty good playlist to rock out to. It really works for a nice sunny day. Generally speaking I'm not a huge punk fan, but how can you not love the Ramones, the Sex Pistols and the new bands that imitate the classics. The vandals and ataris songs on the list are just there because they're new aquisitions, I don't think thye'll slip into heavy rotation on my list anytime soon. If anyone reading this( does anyone read this?) has any punk recommendations based on the stuff up there, email em out to me. hkarmark(at )cal.berkeley.edu (written out to avoid spiders for spammers)

This list is good, but I take issue with a couple of these where common usage has, for all intents and purposes, changed the word/phrase. I have recently realized that being right doesn't necessarily mean that people will understand you any better.

  • Royal Crown Revue- Beyond the Sea

Brilliant flash bubblewrap for relieving stress in your cube, and it requires way less space/flexibility than yoga. So it has come to the point where nearly all of my links are coming from my aunt. I no longer have to scour the web for unusual sites or little tools because she aggregates them for me, and unlike fark they are delivered to my mailbox every morning. So I have decided to find a couple good ones of my own so I feel less like an aggregator and more like a collector. I'd just like to give a shout-out to an acquaintance from school, Anthony Levandowski, who has entered in the Barstow to Las Vegas robot race with, get this, a robotic motorcycle(scroll down to get to levandowski), trying to solve a problem much tougher than a segway.

So it is a beautifull day out here in Palo Alto, 75 degrees, crystal clear air, gorgeous sun. The kind of day that makes one want to play hookie and throw around the frisbee, or hit the beach. Man am I glad my office has a window. In honor of this first truly gorgeous day this year I've tossed together a little summery playlist to groove to. There were many more songs I wanted to add, but well, the playlist takes up a lot of real estate. So here's a flash animation from the past come back to haunt us Gonads and Strife when flash animations were crude, choppy and hilarious. If you don't already do so regularly, hit up strongbad emails at homestar runner it's worth it to go back a while and get to know the characters but beware, it can eat up lots of time

Last night I was at work well after midnight working on a demo when california dreamin came on my ipod playlist. Thinking about LA made me feel happy because the weather is wonderful, and the people are better looking. So I decided to make today my LA day,I decided to dress well, and slap a thin veneer of charm and courtesy over the knee deep pool of sleep deprivation I am wading through (ya know, kind of like that waiter who doesn't like you, but is trying to decide if you're someone he should waste an 8x10 glossy on, cause you might be important). I think it's worked pretty well so far, but man I don't know how people keep it up.

O yeah, also there's a big email virus going around (Netsky) actually a worm because it contains it's own smtp, it sends attachments (usually .pif's) often zipped, often claiming you need some password to access the archive. The from field is spoofed so don't bother contacting the sender. If you think you have it click one of the following links network associates, symantec (my preference);

I thought I'd give also Joe Eigo a plug, this guy is ridiculously good. Check out his videos

Recent comedy find from my aunt: The Singhsons, behold as even america's favorite TV family is outsourced/offshored/taken away and done cheaper by brown people.

Popish playlist
  • Bare Naked Ladies- One Week
  • Len- Steal my SUnshine

  • New Radicals- You get what you give
  • Imperial Teen- Yoo Hoo

  • Smash Mouth- Walking on the Sun
  • Duran Duran- Hungry Like The Wolf
  • Paul Simon- Call Me Al
  • Wang Chung- Everybody Have Fun
  • Spin Doctors- Two Princes

My playlist today was inspired by two things, 1.) I woke up feeling great, and 2.) pop music is intruding on my life, I cannot escape the american idol pop sensation...William Hung. Yes I am talking about Civ E superstar William "She Bangs" Hung. A charismatic singer with no professional training and as many have seen in his video excerpts, "no regrets". Okay so he's terrible, but you've got to give him credit for being super ballsy and for being/playing ignorant to the fact that the entire nation is mocking him. This guy is huge, just see how he fares on a google search. For a while he was the second highest rated story on MSN, hell, people in Idaho know who he is. William Hung, I salute you.

So I was feeling a real 92-95 kinda vibe today for some reason, so I thought I'd take the ipod off random and put together a little playlist of appropriate songs. These are the last few that came up, If only I had long hair and a flannel, the vibe would be complete. That and 3.75'll get me some of seattle's best coffee to drown my angst in.
